New deck build | Durban North | 29 October 2026
A new timber deck build is starting in Durban North. The Wood Joint is creating a 5 m × 3 m deck extending off an existing building, adding 15 m² of outdoor space with balustrading on three sides.

Balau decking on a treated timber substructure
The deck will be finished with balau boards over an H3 and H4 CCA-treated timber substructure. The balau surface will bring the warmth and character of natural timber to the new outdoor area.
Balustrading on three sides
Balustrading is planned for the three exposed sides of the deck. The final style is still to be confirmed: either a picket-style balustrade or a stainless steel wire-rope design.
Keeping access to the manhole
A trap door will be incorporated into the deck to retain access to the existing manhole below. This practical detail allows the deck to cover the area while keeping the manhole accessible for future maintenance.
Follow the build
This is a new-build project update. We’ll share progress as the substructure, deck boards and balustrading take shape.
