New build in progress | Kirtlington, Hillcrest | 29 October 2026
A new poolside deck and pergola are taking shape at Kirtlington in Hillcrest. The Wood Joint is building both structures in pine throughout, turning the space beside the existing pool paving into a new outdoor area.
From an empty space to a planned deck
The before photograph shows the intended deck footprint marked out in yellow. These lines help show how the new timber deck will sit alongside the pool and existing garden.

Ground preparation and the first framework
Work is underway on the pine deck framework. Some soil excavation is also taking place to create room for airflow beneath the deck and help avoid moisture being trapped close to the timber.
This preparation is an important part of the build: the space below the finished boards matters as well as the surface above. The excavation is being incorporated into the early work before the decking closes over the substructure.

The intended deck and pergola
The concept render below illustrates the look we are aiming for: a timber deck and pergola creating a connected poolside space. Both the deck and pergola will be built in pine throughout.
This image is a concept render, not a photograph of the completed project. It shows the intended direction; the actual build is currently at the framework and ground-preparation stage.

We’ll share further photographs as the deck boards and pergola are installed, so you can follow the project from the marked-out footprint through to the finished space.
